Bringing home your baby is one of the greatest thrills of your life. After months of waiting, your little one has finally arrived and you can introduce him or her to their home, friends, and family. If you are currently pregnant, you will need to create a room in your home for your child. Putting together a space for your baby requires solid planning, a good color scheme, and an eye for the accessories that will carry your child through their first few years of life.
Nurseries are special, simply because they are put together for when your child is a baby. Generally by the age of 2 or 3, you will most likely redecorate your child's room to match their current interests and activities. Nurseries are all for the parents, and you can pick and choose your favorite baby things to lovingly place in the room.

If you do not know the gender of your child, consider choosing a neutral color. Popular neutral color tones this year are chocolate brown and light blue. Although blue is generally synonymous with boys, light blue and brown can work as a combination for girls as well. Simply choose white, lacy accents or a toile pattern in light blue to bring a feminine touch into the room.
Exhausted mothers will tell you that they spend hours rocking their little one in baby's room. Whether you have hard wood floor or carpet installed, you will want to purchase an area rug. Pink or blue area rugs are easy to come by, but the difficulty is choosing just which texture or fabric you'd like. A plush cotton chenille area rug will be luxurious under your feet during those long 3 am rocks.
There are so many beautiful baby accessories that it's difficult to stop shopping! Soft lighting in a baby's room is a must, as harsh overhead lights can cause your baby to have a more difficult time getting to sleep. There are beautiful night-lights that not only cast a warm glow, but coordinate with other accessories as well. Curtains on the windows don't always have to match the bedding in the crib. Choose a fabric in the same shade but a slightly different pattern, or go for a solid if your crib bedding is a pattern.
Storage is vital in a nursery. You will have many little outfits, undershirts, booties, diapers, and wipes to organize. Be sure to purchase a solid dresser set. Occasionally you can find a diaper change table that converts to a full dresser once your child has outgrown its use. Purchase several of the many beautiful baby baskets you can find in any home décor store that are lined with pink or blue gingham. You can use these baskets to store lotions, nail clippers, or anything small and easy to lose.
If starting with a neutral theme before your baby is born, there are many ways you can customize the room to reflect the gender of your new baby. If you have a boy, you can add car and truck accessories such as wall art or customized car knobs for the dresser. For a girl, add some tulle or ribbon tie-backs for the curtains, a frilly blanket on the bed, or a big pink teddy bear.
The themes are endless and the choices are all yours! Enjoy decorating your baby's nursery, and then sit back and relax while awaiting his or her arrival.
